The club welcomed Connor Liu, playing his first Grand Prix event, and the return of Geoff Davis from Ballarat.

Connor defended well in his game, to secure a draw against Mio Ristic. Likewise, Owen Courtis held Michael Sugrue to a draw despite losing a pawn early in the match.

Thursday 27th April, 2017 – Round 2

The club welcomed 2017 co-champion Zoran Babic as a round two entrant (awarded a half point bye in Round 1).  Connor Liu was compensated a full point in lieu of his match.

Board 1 saw a fighting draw between Rod Hessing and Zoran Babic, allowing Michael Sugrue to finish half a point ahead.

Geoff Barber narrowly held off talented junior Jack Smith, to share equal second with Babic and Owen Courtis.
