The 2016 Spring Rapid Tournament was a six-round Swiss Tournament, held over three Fridays – 19th August, 26th August, and 2nd September (i.e. the beginning of Spring).
Two rounds were played each night, with a time limit of 20 minutes plus 5 seconds per move increment.
This tournament used the same format as will be adopted for the 2016 Rapid Play Championship, commencing on Friday, 25th November.
Reza Daneshvar and Michael Sugrue shared first place on 5/6, with Zoran Babic outright third on 4/6.
Friday 19th August
The tournament kicked off with a healthy field of ten entries, including both current defending Club Champions.

Round 1 witnessed the surprise victory of Paul Wendrich over current co-Champion Geoff Barber.

Round 2 saw Reza Daneshvar topple the highly-rated Michael Sugrue, to share the joint lead with current co-Champion Zoran Babic.
