Daneshvar, Gill, take Ten Minute Handicap

Reza Daneshvar and Club President Geoffrey Gill shared first place in the 2018 Ten Minute Handicap on 4 out of 5 points, in a keen field of ten players.

The handicap format seemed to work well, with seven of the ten players managing a score of 50% or better.  Please see the Tournament Page for details.

Reza takes 2018 Autumn Swiss.

With one round to play, Reza Daneshvar has an unbeatable lead in the 2018 Autumn Swiss Tournament after his fourth straight victory, this time over Mio Ristic.

Owen Courtis drew comfortably against Michael Sugrue, while junior member Jack Smith held 2016 joint club champion Geoff Barber to a draw in a tense knight and pawn ending.

Smith now joins Courtis, Ristic and Sugrue in a four-way contest for second place. See the Tournament Page for further details.

Six-way Tie for Autumn Rapid

Six players tied for first place in a dramatic finish to the 2018 Autumn Rapid Tournament on Thursday, 12th April.
It looked like Michael Sugrue would overtake tournament leader Reza Daneshvar  after both Mio Ristic and Geoff Davis defeated Daneshvar, but Sugrue was himself beaten in the last round by Geoff Barber. Rising junior Jack Smith also joined the winner’s circle with a last-round victory over 2016 Club co-Champion Zoran Babic.
See the Tournament Page for full details.

Binh Wins Summer Rapid

Binh Nguyen has made an impressive start to 2018, winning the Summer Rapid Tournament with a perfect score of 6/6, two points clear of Reza Daneshvar and Michael Sugrue on 4/6.

Club stalwart Bill Stokie also impressed, playing in his first tournament after a long break to reach fourth place, only a half point behind the leaders in a strong field of 14 players. Bill, who recently celebrated his 70th Birthday, appears to have found a new lease on life!
