The 2017 Geelong Chess Club Championship remains poised with two matches left to play, after Alistair Anderson held Michael Sugrue to a draw in their postponed match on Sunday, 19th November.
Sugrue now leads on 10.5 points out of 13 games, but his nearest rival, Reza Daneshvar, is on 9.5 points with one game to play this Sunday 26th November, against current co-champion Zoran Babic. If Daneshvar wins, he will draw level with Sugrue, and trigger a two match play off.
Babic, himself coming off a win with the white pieces against talented junior Connor Liu yesterday, will again have the white pieces against Daneshvar. The match, along with Alistair Anderson vs Geoff Barber, will start at 1pm on Sunday at the Geelong Chess Club, Girl Guide’s Hall, in 33 Myers Street. All are welcome.
